Clown

Red Spoon Clown Intensive

20th-22nd June

Clown ignites the absurd that is in all of us and gives us greater access to our creative impulses as actors, performers, artists and humans!

Contemporary clown is not about face paint and big shoes (or even ‘red nose’); it’s about finding a unique character within yourself who delights in laughter and play, whose reality is elastic but whose experience is deeply human. It is about combining playfulness and laughter with a quest for honesty. Clown invites our individual and unique imagination, naivety and humour to the stage as well as our capacity to share these qualities with an audience and our fellow performers. Explore the pleasure of being stupid, the honesty of being joyful and the excitement of altering reality to suit the game.

This three day, full time intensive has a very physical focus. Each session will be dedicated to unleashing the clown through improvisation, observation and exercises. You will commence a thorough investigation into clown spirit, clown relationships and the mechanics of clown comedy with its wonderful comic joy in the absurd! All work will use the body as a primary source for creativity. You will be challenged to find the truth that is the cornerstone of your clown, to (re) discover your imagination and refine your understanding of stage presence!

Review of Clown Intensive with Andrew Cory

2007 clown intensive with Brisbane based teacher Andrew Cory was highly successful. A total of 11 students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds attended the course for the three days. All participants gained a great deal, were challenged and left inspired. Flying Heart Productions and Red Spoon (Andrews company) will produce the event again in 2008 so stay tuned!
